IRS Tax Calculators
Free tools to estimate what you owe and explore your options.
These free IRS tax calculators give you a fast, plain-English read on your federal tax situation. Use them to estimate how much you owe, understand your resolution options, and see what a solution might cost, all before you call the IRS or agree to anything. Every result is an estimate to help you understand your options, not tax advice or a decision from the IRS.
Our Free IRS Tax Calculators
IRS Penalty & Interest Estimator
See how the IRS failure-to-file penalty, failure-to-pay penalty, and daily-compounding interest have added to your balance, and what it could cost to keep waiting. Enter your unpaid tax and the year it applied to, and the tool breaks your estimated balance into original tax, penalties, and interest, then projects where you could stand in 6 and 12 months.
Use it if: you owe federal back taxes and want to know how much of your balance is penalties and interest, and how fast it is growing.

IRS Payment Plan Calculator
Almost everyone with an IRS balance qualifies for some kind of payment plan. This tool shows which plan likely fits your balance and estimates the monthly payment. Enter what you owe and, if you like, what you can comfortably pay each month, and it will flag when a standard plan may not be realistic and other options (such as a partial-payment plan or an Offer in Compromise) are worth exploring.
Use it if: you owe the IRS and want to know your installment options and a realistic monthly payment.

IRS Offer in Compromise Qualifier
An Offer in Compromise lets some taxpayers settle their tax debt for less than the full amount, but only if they qualify. This four-step tool uses the same basic eligibility rules and reasonable collection potential formula the IRS applies, so you can see whether you are able to apply right now and whether settling for less is realistic in your situation.
Use it if: you cannot pay your full IRS balance and want an honest read on whether an Offer in Compromise is worth pursuing.

Are These Estimates Accurate?
Each calculator uses current IRS rules and the quarterly interest rate set under IRC Section 6621, which changes every quarter. The results are good-faith estimates meant to help you understand your situation. They are not a bill, a payoff figure, an approval, or legal advice, and the IRS makes all final determinations. You can confirm current federal rates and program rules at IRS.gov.
